Yohimbine

Yohimbine is an alkaloid with stimulant and aphrodisiac properties. It is an alpha-2 antagonist. How does it achieve its effects as an antagonist? It primarily binds to the alpha-2-NE receptors that function as autoreceptors. Therefore, NE cannot bind to the autoreceptor, and so NE production and release in increased, resulting in the stimulant and aphrodisiac effects observed.
